The long awaited Hog Rider nerf plus spells against Crown Towers! Get to know the changes in Clash Royale before the start of the year!

The long-awaited Balance Changes is here and Supercell and the Clash Royale heard most of the players' plea, a Hog Rider nerf. Aside from the Hog Rider getting less love from the community, they also nerfed spells such as Fireball, Lightning, Zap, The Log, Poison, Rocket, and Arrows. Get to know more about the balance changes below.

Hog Rider: Nerf on Hit Speed and first attack

Hit speed to 1.6sec (from 1.5sec), first attack comes 0.1sec slower

After all the complaints from players that Clash Royale is now becoming Hog Royale, the Hog Rider is given a nerf. Although, if you look at the stats it is fairly minimal as they only cut .10 seconds off the Hog Rider's speed. We will see if there will be any changes in the meta after this nerf.

Knight: Nerf on Hit Speed

Hit speed to 1.2sec (from 1.1sec)

The cheap alternative to a tanker and one of the most versatile troop in the arena. The Knight is getting a nerf as his hit speed is toned down by .10 seconds. To be honest, I have a feeling his usage rate might not move at all as he is usually used as a counter unit.

Prince: Buff on HP and Hit Speed

Hitpoints +5%, hit speed to 1.4sec (from 1.5sec)

Is the Double Princes really coming to this meta? If you want to be one of the first players to master it, you can check our Giant Double Prince Beatdown. The good thing about that deck is you don't need a legendary card.

Damage Spells: Damage Nerf

poison.png rocket.png arrows.png
Damage -5% to Crown Towers

Don't worry, you can still Rocket cycle your way to victory, you will just need an extra hit or two that's all.

Ice Golem: Death Damage nerf

Death Damage slow effect duration to 1sec (from 2sec)

The Ice Golem is one of the favorites in cycle cards and even in ultra heavy decks. He can be used as a Minion Horde killer or as a P.E.K.K.A lure. He is usually used in Hog decks as a tank. With this nerf, we might see a few changes in the arena.

Skeleton Barrel: Buff, added death damage

Added Death Damage

With this buff, these flying party Skellies might get noticed soon! They are a good candidate for a Balloon alternative or even a Gob Barrel.

Giant Skeleton: HP buff

Hitpoints +5%

This is a high addition to the big walking skeleton. With this buff, we might see a lot of counter decks such as Giant Skeleton Off Meta Counter Deck in the arena. Decks like this one is will make your opponent have a tough time getting through your base.

Guards: Damage, HP, Hit Speed buff

Damage +5%, hitpoints +5%, hit speed to 1.1sec (from 1.2sec)

A huge buff to the underestimated Guards. The team also made a Guards buff before this balance change but with a good chunk of HP, Damage, and Hit Speed this will for sure get the attention of a lot of players.

Goblins: Damage Nerf

Goblins (affects Goblins, Goblin Gang, Goblin Barrel): Damage -6%

Is this the start of the end of the Spell Bait Deck? I am pretty sure some players will just replace cards like the Goblin Barrel to Skeleton Barrel, Goblin Gang to Spear Goblins. We will see it after a few days.

Elixir Collector: HP nerf

Hitpoints -13%

Lower HP means less elixirs. It is now more vulnerable than ever against spells, Miners, and Goblin Barrel. We might see a lot of variation in Heavy Golem decks and 3M decks.


Final Overview:

With this new update, expect to see lesser Spell Bait decks (but not totally) and more on counter decks. With the buff of the Giant Skeleton and Guards, I am predicting a lot of beatdown decks starring the Skeleton King and probably the Skeleton Barrel as an added support.
